Most people can name maybe half the countries they have been to. The rest are in old photo albums, expired boarding passes and a group chat from 2018. Noma is the place that keeps the list, and then helps with the next one.
A passport, not a profile.
A passport is a private document that happens to be beautiful. It records where you went, it fills up slowly, and nobody scores it. That is the shape we wanted, so that is the shape the app took. The mascot is a folded paper map, because a folded paper map is what this replaced.
Five rules we hold ourselves to.
These sit at the top of the product document and they settle most arguments before they start.
Capture should be effortless.
Find a known place in three letters, or save exactly what you typed. Either way it takes seconds.
Private by default.
Places, trips, documents and extracted details belong to the account owner. Nothing is public until you export it.
Data is the artwork.
Maps, routes, dates, counts and stamps carry the app. We do not decorate it with stock photography.
Automation stays reviewable.
Anything read from a booking keeps a path back to its source, and uncertain fields are marked for review.
One source of truth.
A place, an event or a booking should not quietly become two records because of an import.
The list of things Noma will not become.
Knowing what to refuse is most of the work. This list has not changed since the first version of the product document.
